01 — Meet Kim
Kim Edward, Barrister
B.A. · LL.B U. of Toronto
Windsor Law
A Brief Biography

Kim Edward, Barrister.

Born and raised in Toronto, with a brief stint in Scotland. A committed "Geek" through her early school years — Math Club, History Canada, Reach for the Top — and a writer for newspapers and performer in dramas and orchestras. Those pursuits gave her the attention to detail, creativity, and flair for drama that anyone would want in their Criminal Defence Counsel.

She studied Literature at Victoria College, University of Toronto, with a semester at Université de Strasbourg completing a minor in French. From there she went to Law School in Windsor — a hardworking, honest city she still credits with shaping her practice.

As a law student, Kim argued a Supreme Court entrapment case in moot competition — telling the judge, who happened to be the very Supreme Court Justice who had written the decision, that he was wrong. He recommended her for Top Advocate, and she won. She was not intimidated then. She is not intimidated now.

Kim was headhunted by Macleod Dixon in Calgary, became a corporate lawyer with Air Canada, and then found her way into criminal law — first with Jim Child, then Dean Paquette & Associates, before founding her own practice. She has been called to the Bar since 1985, and has lived in Hamilton since 1988 — the same year she defended her first murder case.

Today Kim is a mother of four grown children and a G-Mama to a granddaughter. She has successfully defended 28 murder cases since 1988, and she remains, in her own words, fearless.
