Kim Edward, Barrister

Kim was born and raised in Toronto – except for a brief stint in Scotland. Through early education Kim was a committed “Geek”; Math Club, History Canada, Reach for the Top (10% discount for anyone who remembers that TV show); definitely NOT an athlete. She was involved in writing for newspapers, performing in dramas and orchestras. These pursuits gave her the attention to detail, creativity, and flair for drama that anyone would want in their Criminal Defence Counsel.
University of Toronto was the next stop; Victoria College for a degree in Literature. Kim chaired the wicked Rocky Horror Night at Ainslie Hall in 1980 that drew the police and then…had them stay. A semester at the Universite de Strabourg completed Kim’s minor in French.
Law School in Windsor was next; a hardworking, honest city. Law School was tough: 1st year you are scared to death; 2nd year you are worked to death; and 3rd year you are bored to death. Kim worked with the Legal Aid Clinic part-time. Kim competed in Moot Competitions, debating competitions. Kim argued an entrapment case saying that the decision of the Supreme Court of Canada was wrong; her Judge was the very Judge who wrote the judgement for the Supreme Court of Canada. Based on his recommendation, Kim won the award as the Top Advocate in this provincial competition. Kim was not intimidated then as a student; she still is a fearless advocate.
Kim was headhunted by Maclead Dixon in Calgary, one of the biggest Firms in Canada. After 2 years, Kim became a corporate lawyer with Air Canada. Corporate law was not for Kim; she wanted the courtroom. Kim eventually proceeded into Criminal Law and became an Associate of Jim Child. After two and a half years, Kim joined Dean Paquette & Associates, a prominent criminal law firm spanning across Southern Ontario. Almost three years later, Kim started her own practice.
